He first became known to audiences and achieved a\u00a0cult following\u00a0with his directorial debut film, the black comedy\u00a0Barking Dogs Never Bite\u00a0(2000), before achieving both critical and commercial success with his subsequent films: the crime thriller\u00a0Memories of Murder\u00a0(2003), the monster film\u00a0The Host\u00a0(2006), the science fiction action film\u00a0Snowpiercer\u00a0(2013), which served as Bong’s English language debut, and the acclaimed black comedy thriller\u00a0Parasite\u00a0(2019), all of which are among the\u00a0highest-grossing films in South Korea, with\u00a0Parasite\u00a0also being the highest-grossing South Korean film in history.<\/p>\n
All of Bong’s films have been South Korean productions. However,\u00a0Snowpiercer,\u00a0Okja\u00a0(2017) and Mickey 17\u00a0(2025) are\u00a0Hollywood co-productions with significant use of the English language.
